AI Visibility

AI visibility is the extent to which a brand, product or website appears and is represented in AI-generated answers.

AI visibility is the extent to which a brand, product or website appears and is represented in AI-generated answers. It covers more than being cited: a company can be mentioned, recommended, described accurately or omitted entirely when buyers use AI to research a market.

What does AI visibility include?

AI visibility can occur when systems built on large language models name a brand, cite its website, summarize its expertise or include it in a comparison. These outcomes should be tracked separately. A citation shows source use, while a recommendation signals that the brand has entered the system’s suggested set of options.

How do you measure AI visibility?

Start with a stable set of prompts based on genuine buyer questions. Run them across the AI platforms your audience uses and record brand mentions, recommendations, citations, cited URLs, answer position and sentiment. Compare the results with a fixed competitor set to calculate an AI-focused share of voice.

Repeat important prompts because generated answers can vary. Report visibility by platform, topic and buyer stage instead of blending everything into one score. A brand mentioned in educational answers may have a different commercial opportunity from one recommended during vendor selection.

What influences AI visibility?

Visibility depends partly on whether an AI system can find relevant information. Experiences that use live search or retrieval-augmented generation may retrieve pages or other sources before producing an answer. Clear factual content, crawlable pages, consistent brand information and credible third-party evidence create more opportunities to be discovered and represented correctly.

No individual page or technical setting guarantees inclusion. AI visibility also depends on the prompt, platform, available sources and how the system constructs its response.

How can a B2B brand improve AI visibility?

Begin with an AI visibility audit: identify commercially relevant prompts, benchmark competitors, review cited sources and flag incorrect descriptions. Then separate the findings into three actions: fix unclear existing information, build missing content and influence relevant third-party sources.

Prioritize prompts connected to actual buying decisions rather than chasing mentions everywhere. An AI Search strategy should connect visibility work to accurate positioning, useful website content, external corroboration and measurable pipeline—not visibility as an isolated vanity metric.

More B2B. Less generic.
