Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) measures how long it takes the largest visible content element in the viewport to render.

What is Largest Contentful Paint?

Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is a Core Web Vital that measures loading performance. It records when the largest visible image, text block or other eligible content element in the viewport finishes rendering.

For B2B marketers, LCP is useful because it approximates when the main above-the-fold content becomes visible. On a service or campaign page, that is often the hero image, headline area or another large visual element.

What is a good LCP score?

Google recommends an LCP of 2.5 seconds or less at the 75th percentile of page visits. More than 4 seconds is considered poor. Use real-user data in PageSpeed Insights when available rather than judging performance from one test alone.

What causes slow Largest Contentful Paint?

LCP can be delayed before the main element even starts loading. A slow Time to First Byte, render-blocking CSS, late-discovered images, large media files, web fonts and client-side rendering can all contribute.

Use Google Lighthouse to identify likely lab-based causes, but interpret them alongside field data. Heavy JavaScript can also delay rendering even when the LCP resource has downloaded; related diagnostics such as Total Blocking Time can help expose that problem.

How do you improve LCP?

First identify the actual LCP element. Then remove delay from its loading path: compress and correctly size hero images, avoid lazy-loading the LCP image, preload critical resources when appropriate, reduce render-blocking code and improve server response time.

On a Webflow website, also review oversized assets, animations, custom scripts and third-party marketing tools added over time. Performance should be monitored as part of ongoing technical SEO, not treated as a one-time launch check.

Why does LCP matter for B2B marketers?

Slow main-content rendering adds friction before a buyer can understand the offer or take the next step. Prioritize LCP improvements on high-traffic service pages, landing pages and other commercially important parts of the B2B marketing website.

Key takeaway

LCP measures when the page’s main visible content renders. Aim for 2.5 seconds or less for most users, diagnose the specific loading bottleneck, and optimize the critical content path rather than chasing a performance score in isolation.
