Webflow vs Craft CMS for B2B marketing teams

Webflow vs Craft CMS compared on editing, SEO, speed, security, cost and scale. See where each wins and which fits your B2B marketing team.

Transparency statement

We independently review and test every app in our app comparison articles. We don't earn any commissions on the link or the platforms. In full transparency, we are a Webflow partner, and that's because we independently tested all the CMS platforms throughout the years. In our opinion, Webflow is the best for B2B marketing teams from mid-market to enterprise organizations worldwide.

  • Cost: Compare total cost, not licences.

Craft CMS is a well-regarded, developer-first CMS. Comparing it with Webflow is not a question of good versus bad. The real question is who changes your site, and how fast.

The short answer: for most B2B marketing teams that want to publish and launch campaigns without a developer queue, Webflow is the better fit. Craft wins when a developer team owns a complex, bespoke content model.

This page compares the two on eight criteria: editing, CMS flexibility, SEO, speed, security, integrations, scalability and cost. It also covers where Webflow is weaker and ends with a recommendation per situation.

A note on who is writing. We are Overflow, a Webflow Certified Partner with 40+ Webflow sites behind us. We do not build on Craft, so every Craft fact below comes from Craft's own documentation and pricing pages, plus third-party reviews where we say so. Our view is clear: Webflow is the best CMS for B2B marketing teams. We also say where it is not.

Webflow vs Craft CMS at a glance

Webflow is a visual, hosted platform. CMS, hosting and design live in one place. Craft CMS is a PHP CMS built by Pixel & Tonic. Developers build templates in Twig, and you host it yourself or on Craft Cloud, Craft's own hosting platform.

  • Editing: Webflow lets marketers edit content and change layouts visually. In Craft, editors manage entries; structural changes need a developer. Verdict: Webflow for marketing-owned sites.
  • CMS flexibility: Craft offers deeper relational modelling. Webflow covers typical B2B content types. Verdict: Craft for bespoke models.
  • SEO: Both give full control of titles, meta, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps and schema. Webflow ships these natively; Craft needs developer-built templates or plugins. Verdict: tie.
  • Speed: Both can be fast. Webflow includes CDN hosting; Craft's speed depends on hosting and build. Verdict: Webflow by default, Craft with the right setup.
  • Security: Webflow is fully managed. Craft self-hosted needs server and update upkeep. Verdict: Webflow for low maintenance.
  • Integrations: Webflow connects standard marketing tools quickly. Craft is more open for custom logic. Verdict: depends on the stack.
  • Scalability: Craft handles complex, app-like projects better. Webflow scales well for marketing sites. Verdict: Craft for complex builds.
  • Cost: Craft licences are cheap but need hosting and developer time. Webflow plans include hosting. Verdict: compare total cost, not licences.

What is the difference between Webflow and Craft CMS?

Webflow gives designers and marketers a visual builder with hosting included. Craft gives developers full control of code and content modelling, with a clean editing screen for the people who write content.

Both are strong. They are built for different owners. If you want the Webflow side in detail, read our guides to the Webflow CMS and CMS collections.

Who can publish and edit without a developer?

This is the criterion that decides most B2B decisions.

Webflow

Marketers edit content in the CMS. With the visual designer, they can also change layouts and launch new pages. Content types live in collections, and one page template renders every item. When the build is done well, a new case study or landing page needs no ticket.

Craft CMS

Editors get a polished control panel for entries. Structural changes are different: new fields, templates and layouts need a developer. A Busyless review of Craft makes the same point, noting that anything new needs a developer first. That is a fair trade for a developer-owned site. It is a bottleneck for a marketing-owned one.

If your pain is dev queues and campaigns that take weeks, this row matters most. In our Playbook 01, the B2B Marketing Website, handover includes live training, video tutorials and documentation, so your team publishes on its own from day one.

CMS flexibility and content modelling

Craft is stronger here, and we say so plainly.

Where Craft is strong

  • Sections, entry types and nested entries for deeply structured content
  • Multi-site and locales built in
  • A native GraphQL API
  • Project config you can keep under version control

Where Webflow fits

Webflow offers collections, reference and multi-reference fields, dynamic templates and a CMS API for managing content programmatically. Limits depend on the plan. Webflow's May 2026 plan update raised the Premium plan to 20,000 CMS items. Check current limits on webflow.com before you plan a large build.

Verdict: Craft for deeply relational, bespoke models. Webflow for the content a typical B2B site needs: services, case studies, resources, team members and locations.

SEO: which is better?

Neither ranks better by itself. Both give you control of titles, meta descriptions, canonicals, redirects, sitemaps and structured data.

Webflow includes these natively. Its pricing page lists custom title tags and meta descriptions, canonical URLs, an auto-generated XML sitemap, robots controls, structured data and 301 redirects. In Craft, a developer writes the templates that output SEO tags, and plugins can help.

What decides SEO outcomes is site architecture, content quality and care during a migration. The CMS only needs to get out of the way. We cover this in our guides to Webflow SEO, schema markup and our Webflow SEO services. We do not promise rankings or traffic, and no platform can.

A note on AI search

Structured content and crawl access matter for ChatGPT, Perplexity and AI Overviews. In Webflow you manage robots.txt and schema in the interface, which makes it easier for a marketer to control what AI crawlers can reach. Craft can do the same through developer-built templates.

Speed and performance

Webflow includes hosting on a CDN, so pages are served from the server nearest the visitor. Speed still depends on build quality. On the Nedcargo migration from WordPress to Webflow, which took 4 weeks, Lighthouse scores landed between 95 and 98+. That is one project, not a guarantee. See our guide to Webflow page speed.

On the Craft side, Craft Cloud includes static caching, on-demand image transforms and a CDN for static and front-end assets. If you self-host, speed depends on your server and your developer's setup.

Verdict: both can be fast. Webflow is fast by default. Craft is as fast as the team hosting it.

Security and maintenance

Webflow is managed hosting. Your team has no plugins to update and no servers to patch.

Self-hosted Craft means your team or developer maintains PHP, the server and Craft updates. Craft Cloud takes the hosting work off your hands. Craft licence updates cost $99 per year after the first year.

To be fair to Craft: a third-party review (DXP Scorecard) credits it with a cleaner security record than WordPress. Do not treat Craft as insecure. The difference is who carries the upkeep.

Integrations and extensibility

Webflow has native integrations, forms, custom code and APIs. For a marketing stack, see our guides to Webflow integrations, the HubSpot integration, the Salesforce integration and custom code.

Craft extends through plugins and Composer packages, plus anything a developer writes. Craft Commerce exists for online stores. We do not sell e-commerce, so we leave that one alone.

Verdict: Craft is more open for custom logic. Webflow is faster for connecting the standard marketing stack: CRM, forms, analytics and email.

Scalability and where Webflow is weaker

Webflow has real limits. Know them before you commit.

  • Complex back-end logic. Webflow is a website platform, not an application framework. Webflow retired its native Logic automation in 2025 and points customers to tools such as Zapier or Make.
  • Very large or highly relational content. Plans cap CMS items and collections, so check the numbers for your content volume.
  • Gated or logged-in experiences. Webflow retired its native User Accounts feature in January 2026, so members areas need other tools.
  • Deep multi-language needs. Webflow handles localisation, but it is a paid add-on and not as open as Craft's multi-site model. See our guide to Webflow localization for what it does.

Craft has limits too. Its plugin and developer pool is smaller than WordPress's, and every structural change depends on a developer. Craft 6 is also moving to Laravel. According to Craft, Craft 6 is being built as a Laravel package, with a beta planned for Q3 2026 and general availability in Q4. Craft 5 is a long-term support release, so there is no rush, but you should ask your developer about the upgrade path.

If scale and governance are the concern, see Webflow Enterprise.

Cost over three years

Craft CMS

Craft's published prices (check craftcms.com/pricing for the current figures): Solo is free for one user, Team is $279 and Pro is $399, each with one year of updates, then $99 per year for updates. Craft Cloud hosting is listed at $120 or $240 per month on annual billing, or $130 and $260 monthly, according to TrustRadius and Busyless.

Busyless works out the three-year figures. Craft Cloud Pro for 36 months comes to $8,640. Self-hosted Pro with two renewals comes to $597, plus hosting.

Webflow

Webflow charges per site, and hosting is included. Since May 2026 the Premium plan covers CMS sites. Reviews of the new pricing put it at $25 per month on yearly billing, or $39 monthly. That is $900 over three years on yearly billing, for the site plan alone. Workspace seats, add-ons such as localisation, and larger plans like Team are extra. Confirm current figures on webflow.com/pricing.

The cost most comparisons miss

Licences are the small number. The larger one is who does the work. Every change that needs a developer has a price, and every campaign that waits for one has a cost. We have no cost data of our own to quote, so use this checklist with your own numbers:

  1. List the changes you make to the site in a typical quarter: new pages, templates, fields, campaign pages.
  2. Mark which of them need a developer on each platform.
  3. Multiply those by your developer's hourly rate and by the days each request waits in the queue.
  4. Add hosting, maintenance and update time.
  5. Add the one-off cost of the build or migration.
  6. Add licences and plans over 36 months.

Which should you choose? A recommendation per situation

Choose Webflow if

  • A marketing team owns the site.
  • Campaigns need to ship fast, without a developer queue.
  • The site is a B2B marketing website with standard content types.

Choose Craft if

  • You have in-house or retained developers.
  • You need a complex, bespoke content model.
  • The site is a product feeding apps through GraphQL.

Consider other options

Our view: Webflow is the best CMS for B2B marketing teams, with the caveats above. If your site is a product or a bespoke content system, Craft is the better tool.

Switching from Craft to Webflow: what to protect

If you decide to move, protect four things:

  • Content models. Map Craft sections and entry types to Webflow collections.
  • URLs. Keep them, or set up 301 redirects for every changed one. See 301 redirects in Webflow.
  • Templates. Rebuild them as Webflow page templates.
  • Metadata and schema. Carry over titles, descriptions and structured data.

We cannot promise rankings or timelines for any migration. As a past case, our Nedcargo move from WordPress to Webflow took 4 weeks. For the full process, read our Webflow migration guide.
